Standard carbon block filters only treats for chlorine and will allow ammonia and other impurities to reach your RO membrane and possibly your aquarium. Carbon block pre-filter is often used as the second stage filtration after the sediment filter for reverse osmosis systems water purification.
The 5 µ carbon block pre-filter removes organics and chlorine from the feed water that can damage the membrane.

NOTE: Place the cartridge in the appropriate housing and flush for a minimum of 10-15 minutes prior to use. Use only with microbiologically safe and adequate disinfected water.
